Project Open Gates
Assistance to Russian Olim (Immigrants)

Through "Open Gates" new Russian immigrants are served as soon as they arrive in the Land. Often disoriented, homesick, and missing all they have left behind, they find their first months in Israel difficult. We seek to ease their adjustment, provide needed items and welcome them home.

Appreciation has been expressed in many ways:

"On these difficult days of extraordinary situations when we first came to Israel, your help was the light for which we craved when leaving Russia."

"I can't put into words my thanks. Your unselfish help gives us faith, hope and strength for further life."

Immigrants often have expenses they cannot afford on limited budgets. CFI gives assistance in paying for hearing aids, eyeglasses, medical bills, study books, furniture, household goods; each case is individually assessed. Whenever possible, items are purchased from local factories or kibbutzim in Israel which employ immigrants. How much we are able to assist, depends on you and your help.

"However, the days are coming," declares the LORD, "when men will no longer say, 'As surely as the LORD lives, who brought the Israelites up out of Egypt,' but they will say, 'As surely as the LORD lives, who brought the Israelites up out of the land of the north and out of all the countries where he had banished them.' For I will restore them to the land I gave their forefathers.

Since 1989, nearly one million new immigrants have arrived in Israel. The vast majority have come from the "land of the north" -- Russia and the CIS. The work is far from over -- in fact, it has hardly begun.
